Enhancing Opportunities for Recovery
Wellink is a peer-led organisation, with around half of the people in staff and governance roles having lived through the experience of serious mental illness. This means that we know that recovery is possible and we focus on helping people gain self-knowledge, create recovery strategies and develop a healthy lifestyle.
Beginning The Journey - Entering A Wellink Service
The organisation has an influential consumer governance group that ensures staff and service provision maintains a recovery orientation. Wellink provides support to a minimum of 200 people.
We work in partnership with mental health clinical services around the Wellington region to
provide help and hope to people who need us. People gain access to Wellink’s services through
referral from the District Health Board Needs Assessment and Service Coordination Services.
We can also consider other approaches, such as directly from the person with the mental illness,
Community Mental Health Team members, family and whanau, GPs, caregivers and others in
the community.
During 2005 and 2006 substantial changes were made to Wellink’s management team. Due to the internal focus during this period of renewal for Wellink, we did not produce an Annual Report for these years. It’s important to note that the quality and quantity of Wellink’s service delivery was maintained in all areas
over that period and Wellink continued to develop its thinking and practices.
